Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) has been used to combat microbial growth in medical environments for many decades. In this article, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab explores the use of UVGI in nonmedical applications. While early studies in the area are promising, especially when used in crowded spaces, more research is needed to verify the effectiveness of UVGI in combating COVID-19.
