Our industry has been using fault diagnostic and detection (FDD) software for nearly 15 years. Some organizations have fully embraced this technology with success, some are struggling, but most still haven’t begun. We will have 3 of the leading users of FDD each present their latest uses of FDD software. We will then hold a panel discussion for the panel and audience to all interact to raise our collective knowledge.
Bio: Daniel is the CMMS and Utilities Administrator for the SLC Airport. Daniel has also been a Building Automation Specialist with over 10 years of experience with particular expertise in Honeywell and Siemens controls. Daniel has been optimizing the use of SkySpark for the airport for the last 3 years.
FDD Usage: The SLC airport has been using SkySpark for over 10 years. Daniel has been specifically focusing on how to FDD to make use maintenance staff strategically for items like air filter changes and strainer clean outs. The airport has identified hidden problems with items like airflow stations that have greatly impacted energy use. Finally, Daniel has worked on views to make FDD simple and understandable for non-SkySpark experts.
Bio: April is the VP of MBCx for Bernhard. Previously, April started the MBCx group within ETC Group. April is a PE in Mechanical Engineering with over 15 years of experience in the energy industry.
FDD Usage: ETC Group provided FDD platforms and MBCx services as a standalone service for healthcare, higher ed, K-12, commercial properties, and industrial properties. Bernhard uses MBCx to both deliver and sustain energy savings for comprehensive Energy as a Service (EaaS) projects. Bernhard most recently began providing supervisory level controls through their FDD platform.
Bio: David is a senior commissioning agent at kW Engineering, bringing 3 years of experience as a controls engineer in the industry. David has spent the past 2.5 years at kW providing performance commissioning for the DFCM, University of Utah, Intermountain Health & Salt Lake City School District. David has also performed MBCx at Intermountain Health & University of Utah leveraging Skyspark and analytics to improve operations and meet energy savings goals.
FDD Usage: kW Engineering uses analytics and FDD to do comprehensive system wide analysis of systems that would previously have been a very manual process. They also use analytics to normalize energy use for factors of occupancy, outside air temperature, time etc. to create models of the buildings energy use and then compare to actual usage showing up on meters. This M&V process is critical for tracking the success of projects and when the building usage is abnormal.
